  生長(zhǎng)于山東濟(jì)南,祖籍安徽亳州。1984年畢業(yè)于山東大學(xué)哲學(xué)系,隨即分配到中國(guó)社會(huì)科學(xué)院辦公廳調(diào)研處,1985年入世界宗教研究所佛教室。近年主要的研究工作放在明代繼而清代佛教方面。
